Bradford is a city located in West Yorkshire, England. It’s one of the largest urban centers in the UK, hosting a population of over half a million. The city became a municipal borough in 1847, received its city charter in 1897. Bradford was one of the cities that rose to prominence during the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century. It became a centre for textile manufacturing and was called the “wool capital of the world”.  

As with all cities in Northern England in recent years thanks to globalization and deindustrialisation the textile industry has largely fallen into decline. But the city has reinvented itself as a tourist destination and began expanding into other growth-sectors like: financial services, digital technology and retail, just to name a few. In the 21st century Bradford has become an ethnocultural diverse city, thanks to large numbers of asian, african and middle-eastern immigrants arriving after the Second World War.

In 2009 Bradford became the first city to be given the title UNESCO City of Film.
